LIFESTYLE FOR HORMONE BALANCE

The way you live your life can drastically affect your hormones too. Let’s take a look at what you can do to change your lifestyle.

There isn’t much you can do about the environment you live in, there are toxins in the air all the time but you can do something about what you put onto your skin and the air that you breathe in your own house.

These toxins are called Xenoestrogens.

TOXINS IN HOUSE

Try and use environmentally friendly products where possible such as:-

Washing powder and fabric softeners

Detergents

Washing up Liquid

Cleaning Products

Room purifiers that are essential oil based

Beeswax candles

Use glass containers as much as you can

To help with purifying the air in your house, you can buy indoor plants which are excellent, diffuse essential oils with a diffuser or rock salt lamps are also an excellent way to purify the air in your house.

SKIN CARE, SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER, DEODRANT ETC

There are toxins in your skincare and toiletries as well. Look out for products that contain natural ingredients. I love the range from Neal’s Yard Remedies and also Young Living. If you would like more details about the Young Living products and how these can help with your health and wellbeing, please get in touch with me for more information.

PLASTICS

Plastics can contain Bisphenol A (BPA). This can produce estrogen like substances in your body and increase the bad oestrogen levels. Only buy plastics that say “no BPA” on the label.

Try and use glass containers where possible and cut down on using plastics. Some receipts also contain Bisphenol A so if you don’t want your receipt, tell the cashier you don’t need it. I have noticed that some shops have started to ask if you would like a receipt but I think thats more to do with cutting down on the amount of paper wastage than the Bisphenol A content of the receipt.

SLEEP

Sleep is very important especially for hormone health. You need to be getting enough sleep because during sleep your body can repair itself, detox happens, you lose weight when you sleep, your growth hormone increases. If you do not get at least 7 hours sleep every night then it will affect our mood, appetite, metabolism and brain health. Your stress hormone can be activated if you continue to lack quality sleep. Cortisol affects everything – blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, mood, energy levels so it is important that you keep cortisol happy so as not to cause an imbalance.

To help with sleep, you can create a night time ritual. Make a point of turning off your laptop, computer or mobile use by 9pm, create a relaxing environment with low lighting, have a hot bath with magnesium chloride flakes, drink some herbal tea, use essential oils. Reading a book can help the body to relax and prepare for sleep. Listen to some relaxing music in ear buds or headphones. I like to listen to Holosync as the sound of the rain and bells can help put you into a meditative state. Don’t eat anything at least 3 hours before you sleep because your digestion will keep you from sleeping.
